MISSING TORONTO
I miss Toronto. Not just the weather. Not just the city. Not just the people. I miss every single aspect of it. I sooo wish I could turn back time... just to 6 months ago is enough. That's all I ask. It's not that I don't like Singapore. I love it to bits too. But if you offered me a chance to experience the magic of my past 4 yrs in T.O. again i would bite your hand off. Call me fickle but I want both places equally as much in my life.
BORING WEEKEND
had an extremely uneventful weekend. Uneventful=Stayed at home+Did nothing=nothing to talk about= nothing to write about.
Man Utd beat Spurs 1-0 over the weekend. Bring on Fenerbahce...

Another weekend is over. Talk about fast. I didn't even realize it was here this time around. It's now 25 days (19 working days) till the end of my attachment here at EDB, and for some reason I am kinda looking forward to it. Like I said, it's not becoz i hate this job... just that I would like some time for myself, which i've not had since i started working here. Neither am i looking forward to more nagging from my mom, which i foresee if i hang around doing nothing at home after this. Think i may enrol myself in a course or something... perhaps an IT course on video editing or perhaps even try to learn the guitar? That's something i've wanted to do for some time but haven't had the chance to. I'll also have to start my intensive physical fitness regime in order to pass my IPPT within those few short weeks so as to get into the Jan. batch.
Team Reputation in Soccer Matters?
Yesterday we played in Hung Tuan's (our captain's) testimonial match. He's leaving for the UK today, along with Derrick and Wei Chuen. Lucky b**tards. I wish I could go back abroad to study again...Beats sitting here staring at the office comp all day. Neways, we had perhaps our toughest opposition to date since i joined the team. It was against this team playing in the CSC division 2 league. semi-pros or what not. and from the pre-match warm ups they looked a gazillion times more pro then we did--having their full squad of 18 players present, whereas our team only had 8 players with kickoff was just 2 mins away lol. needless to say they were expected to give us a bit of a hammering. even the cocky ref seemed to favour their side and deemed they should kick off becoz of their profile. What an idiot. It was no surprise that Francis, my funny but sometimes loud mouthed fren told him "you'll see the scoreline later".
The match was once again end to end. and we came back 3 times to deny them of victory, 3-3 the final score. We could even have won if the pitch was not water-logged from the rain and our passing was more precise. Our goals were a lot nicer than theirs too. Tuan latched onto a cross field pass and ran through one on one before slotting pass the goalie. Yiyong scored a peach of a goal--a wonderful free kick curled into the far corner while their keeper was rooted to the spot. And i opened our scoring for the day by first nutmegging (put the ball through the legs) of the keeper before rounding him to score an open goal. 2 of their 3 goals were flukes and errors. our keeper boon keng even took the liberty to peform 2 or 3 world class saves in the absence of our first choice keeper Nick. We were all wondering whether they felt humiliated to be held by a part time team like ours after the game.
After that we had dinner at Breeks! in ang mo kio. kind of a send off dinner for Tuan. Chatted about times past, about life after Tuan, about how to reform our team etc. She called again. Talked to her for a bit whilst on my way home. Reached home ard 11, took a warm shower, and hit the sack almost immediately after. Monday rolls around.

A TRIBUTE TO NICE GUYS
This is a tribute to the nice guys. The nice guys that finish last, that never become more than friends, that endure hours of whining and bitching about what assholes guys are, while disproving the very point. This is dedicated to those guys who always provide a shoulder to lean on but restrain themselves to tentative hugs, those guys who hold open doors and give reassuring pats on the back and sit patiently outside the changing room at department stores. This is in honor of the guys that obligingly reiterate how cute/beautiful/smart/funny/sexy their female friends are at the appropriate moment, because they know most girls need that litany of support. This is in honor of the guys with open minds, with laid-back attitudes, with honest concern. This is in honor of the guys who respect a girl's every facet, from her privacy to her theology to her clothing style. This is for the guys who escort their drunk, bewildered female friends back from parties and never take advantage once they're at her door, for the guys who accompany girls to bars as buffers against the rest of the creepy male population, for the guys who know a girl is fishing for compliments but give them out anyway, for the guys who always play by the rules in a game where the rules favor cheaters, for the guys who are accredited as boyfriend material but somehow don't end up being boyfriends, for all the nice guys who are overlooked, underestimated, and unappreciated, for all the nice guys who are manipulated, misled, and unjustly abandoned, this is for you.
This is for that time she left 40 urgent messages on your cell phone, and when you called her back, she spent three hours painstakingly dissecting two sentences her boyfriend said to her over dinner. And even though you thought her boyfriend was a chump and a jerk, you assured her that it was all ok and she shouldn't worry about it. This is for that time she interrupted the best killing spree you'd ever orchestrated in GTA3 to rant about a rumor that romantically linked her and the guy she thinks is the most repulsive person in the world. And even though you thought it was immature and you had nothing against the guy, you paused the game for two hours and helped her concoct a counter-rumor to spread around the floor. This is also for that time she didn't have a date, so after numerous vows that there was nothing "serious" between the two of you, she dragged you to a party where you knew nobody, the beer was awful, and she flirted shamelessly with you, justifying each fit of reckless teasing by announcing to everyone: "oh, but we're just friends!" And even though you were invited purely as a symbolic warm body for her ego, you went anyways. Because you're nice like that. The nice guys don't often get credit where credit is due. And perhaps more disturbing, the nice guys don't seem to get hooked up as often as they should. And I wish I could logically explain this trend, but I can't.
From what I have observed on campus and what I have learned from talking to friends at other schools and in the workplace, the only conclusion I can form is that many girls are just illogical, manipulative bitches. Many of them claim they just want to date a nice guy, but when presented with such a specimen, they say irrational, confusing things such as "oh, he's too nice to date" or "he would be a good boyfriend but he's not for me" or "he already puts up with so much from me, I couldn't possibly ask him out!" or the most frustrating of all: "no, it would ruin our friendship." Yet, they continue to lament the lack of datable men in the world, and they expect their too-nice-to-date male friends to sympathize and apologize for the men that are jerks. Sorry, guys, girls like that are beyond my ability to fathom. I can't figure out why the connection breaks down between what they say (I want a nice guy!) and what they do (I'm going to sleep with this complete ass now!). But one thing I can do, is say that the nice-guy-finishes-last phenomenon doesn't last forever. There are definitely many girls who grow out of that train of thought and realize they should be dating the nice guys, not taking them for granted. The tricky part is finding those girls, and even trickier, finding the ones that are single.
So, until those girls are found, I propose a toast to all the nice guys. You know who you are, and I know you're sick of hearing yourself described as ubiquitously nice. But the truth of the matter is, the world needs your patience in the department store, your holding open of doors, your party escorting services, your propensity to be a sucker for a pretty smile. For all the crazy, inane, absurd things you tolerate, for all the situations where you are the faceless, nameless hero, my accolades, my acknowledgement, and my gratitude go out to you. You do have credibility in this society, and your well deserved vindication is coming

hahaha... this is so bad... it's all SP's fault. she discovered how to alter the proxy configurations for icq so as to enable it on our work comps. now we have this icq chatting ring going on in marcom. hmm. not all bad lah. can help us with communicating info faster across. :P thursday is here. man utd made another fight back, this time in europe to snatch a draw against lyon... this time courtesy of 2 goals by Ruud. *sigh*
gonna go to Pulau Ubin next Monday to do this media pitch. well actually the pitch is already done, so it is more like a "mock pitch" for me to gain some experience in the area. how to pitch this idea to the media; how to get a news angle etc. hope it will be fun :) and hope it gets me out of the GES meeting that always ends so late! *fingers crossed*
had a rather awkward moment in our conversation last nite. but talking about it helped us clear things up a bit. dunno what that crazy cha bor is up to now lah. at least now i have a clearer idea as to what she thinks, which makes me feel a lot less weird :D. apparently she said telling me such an honest answer made her feel weird tho. hiakz. go figure these things out. neways better get back to work.

Had one of the most eventful weekends of recent times. Nevertheless I still feel that it passed by too quickly. :( Went for Derrick's 21st Birthday Dinner party at The Pines country club on Friday nite. Didn't know more than two third's of the people at the party, except for a small group of ex-Cat High dudes. Nonetheless it was great to attend the birthday of a good friend of mine, someone I've known for over 10 years through being classmates and soccer school team-mates. Weichuen was there as well, and we ended up getting Derrick a toque (winter hat) as a birthday prez cuz he's heading for the UK soon (plus we couldn't think of anythin else).
SATURDAY
in the morning I went to visit the Dentist for cleaning and managed to get the tea and coffee stains on my teeth removed. Had lunch at Holland V with my mom... love spending time with my parents nowadays.. gonna do that as much as i can before i go for NS or i won't be seeing them much soon again. in the evening james came over to my place, and after a few games of winning eleven and watching some footy clips on my PC, we headed off to meet Boon Keng & co. to have dinner @ "chomp chomp" in Serangoon. We then arrived at his house for a sleepover. Needless to say, with all of us being man utd fans we also caught the match between united and bolton. And needless to say, united's backline proceeded to screw-up big time to make their previous gaffe a few games back look minute in comparison. neways, tuan left early.. leaving james, bk, francis and me to hang ard and talk c till ard 3am. "guy talk" we called it. lol. it was really fun. but then we realized we had a soccer match at 9 am the next morning so we went off to sleep.
SUNDAY
woke up early and headed for the telecom field for our morning match against this malay team. half our team was walking around half asleep lol. the sun soon got really hot though and it felt as if it was 3pm in the afternoon. the match was too eventful to be put into words. endless goals and action. 12-4 was the final score with James bagging 4 goals, Tuan and I both scored hattricks, Yiyong and George also got onto the score sheet. Don't ask me why our games are always high scoring. i dunno. i guess it's a mix of horrible defending and all-out-attacking. the referee must have blew his whistle a million times lol. neways i scored this diving header into the top corner of the net off a left wing cross from derrick. Gonna miss his crosses once he leaves man. he is such an asset to our team. after the game we went to J8 for some drinks at coffee bean.
in the pm i still had to go to NUS to play street soccer with elvin, weichuen and co. was so dam tired and sunburnt by the time i was done that i was dozing off at the evening mass service in church. originally was supposed to go for this family dinner with my aunt who came to visit but in the end i really couldn't stay awake so they left me home to sleep. Caught up on some much needed shut-eye and slept for 10 hrs straight. :P

Thank God for You, Sis
My sis finally left for Toronto this morning. Miss her lots already. So sad that i couldn't send her off to the airport cuz i had to come for work and had a meeting at 10 am. I guess i really didn't notice the time go by. The last time i looked, 8th Sept was still weeks away. Yet now she has already jet off back to ol' One Park Lane in lovely Toronto.
Still dunno what it'll be like at home without her. An empty room, no more watching Friends on her laptop on her bed... no more inpromptu chit chat and gossip sessions. everything seems so strange without my sis. I guess cuz all my life I have had her somewhere around me... even for those 2 yrs in high school when she was in Toronto and I was in Windsor, we were never THAT far away. I guess those who say we really are close as siblings are right, even if during my teen years we didn't get along that well and used to get into countless quarrels. I guess now i finally realize how blessed i am to have a sis like my sis. She truly is another great gift from God in my life.
I have always wanted a brother. A brother to hang out with, a bro to play games and sports with, a bro with the same interests and with whom i could have a regular guy talk with. And through the last few years, I have been fortunate enough to have some really close guy frens who feel like brothers to me, not least of all Henry, my sis' other half. A real bro i can call him. One who has great wisdom and insight with maturity beyond his age, making him a great guy to turn to for advice; yet he exudes the kind of corniness and sense of humour that makes us click as real bros. Another is Yuandong, my Toronto bro... a real buddy.. not just to hang out at Timmies or talk cock, but someone who is on my wavelength very often cuz of our history together as Cat High alumni. These are wonderful guys who i am more than happy to call my brothers.
But i guess what i wanted to say is that, I could have many close guy frens who are like "real bros" to me. But there is ONLY one Ann, one big sis, that i love so dearly and cherish with my heart. The only sister i could ever have in this world who could stand my outbursts, my lame jokes, my smelly petulance, my sorrows in failed relationships, and above all my joy in everything. And for all this, I thank GOD. You have given me more than I deserve, and I pray that you may help me BE the perfect brother to her in return. Thanks for all these years of memories Jie. :) Miss you lots! *Muakz*

Experience with a Stalker
Had a scary experience today after i knocked off work. At first i thought i was lucky cuz Gen said i should help her with something that's due tomorrow so i didn't have to attend the GES meeting that usually lasts till 7-8pm. so i left early ard 6. but on the way home, I was stalked by this weirdo. Really freaky experience... i came onto the mrt. he smiled at me at first. at first i smiled back cuz i thought he was being friendly. then i realized after that he didn't take his eyes off me for a single second. and when more ppl came onto the MRT he strained his neck ard the crowd and continued looking at me, and having this freaky smile on his face.
i alighted at tiong bahru MRT just to avoid him. but he suddenly decided to alight at that stop as well... then i paused amidst the crowd cuz i didnt want him following behind me.. so he went up the escalator first. but he turned around and kept staring at me still. but once on top he stopped in a corner & started tailing behind me again. upstairs i made straight for the control station. There i just stopped and started talking on my cellphone. he seemed to hesitate as he didnt know whether he should wait to follow me or to look for better hiding place. i finally lost him when i made a mad dash up the stairs.
This makes it the second time this year i have been in this situation, the last time being this strange woman who followed me around eaton centre in toronto. that time i hid from one toilet to the next to avoid her but she somehow followed suit. there are just some weird ppl in this world today. but today's experience was a whole lot freakier than the toronto one... this guy seemed to exude a weird vibe that made me feel incredibly uncomfortable, even a bit dizzy. thank god it's over.

Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow
Had my haircut on Saturday at Holland V. To be honest. I think it sucks. It's way much shorter than I would've liked. But then i should've known what was coming. The last time this guy did my hair it had the same result. Maybe he likes short hair or smthg. Now my head kinda looks like a duck's ass... short hair all around with a tuft of grass at the top and a duck's tail coming off the front... what the #@$(*!$ manz!! sighz... neways.... he's a nice guy so i should prob calm down. plus i guess it'll grow out in a while. Went out for lunch with mom and sis at Shaw Tower. My sis is going back to T.O. this wednesday so we're like trying to spend as much time together as a family as possible. In the afternoon I went off to meet Elvin and Weichuen. We watched "Harold and Kumar" which was very corny, but the bottom line is that it was friggin' HILARIOUS! loved it to bits. Weichuen and Elvin thought so too. Then went to grandma's place at nite for our weekly family gathering. Felt very lethargic and drifted off into a deep sleep that night.
Goal-den Sunday
Had another soccer match yesterday @ the Telecom field at 5pm. Good news is, we had a much better referee this week! Amazingly, we ran off winners again with the identical scoreline as the week before (5-3), although this time it was against a diff team. I had thought that with the score being 4-2 at halftime, that the final score would've gone into double figures lol. This time I bagged myself a hattrick, with James and Tuan chipping in with the other two goals. What a game it was, especially the first half... chances were aplenty, and it was non-stop action. In fact I scored our first goal in the first minute of the game.
After that goals were going in back and forth. I liked my second goal best amongst my three however: there was a bit of a scramble between James and the defender before i stepped up and let fly a left footed shot from the edge of the penalty area that flew into the roof of the net. :) Tuan's goal was a real cracker as well, a volley from outside the area that dipped over their keeper into the corner of the net. :) On a damper note our keeper Nicholas had to go to hospital after he received a nasty gash on his face through colliding into one of their strikers during a set piece. Think he required stitches as it was a deep cut but good to hear he's recovering.

Friday's Here!
Arrived at work today expecting the same old boring routine at my desk. But to my surprise, i was suddenly thrown a couple of assignments to do. EDB needed some statistical info regarding MNCs in Singapore and the breakdown of their numbers by region etc. So i had to make calls back and forth since no one was sure where we got our numbers from. As such it turned out that I had to make a call to Kompass International for the numbers. After all the hassle i finally got it sorted out and submitted the numbers. Job done... at least for now.
ARMY "DAZE"??
Received an SMS from my sis informing me that CMPB were looking for me. I returned their call and found out from the lady that i talked to that she could still send me my enlistment letter soon and start BMT on October 1st if i passed my NAPFA test within the next two weeks. If i missed this one then i’d have to wait until mid December or January. This kinda put me on the spot. First of all, I am currently working, where can i find the time to take the NAPFA?? heck, even my "supposed" nightly training at the gym and running has been sporadic... Secondly, GES 2004 is in mid October, and if I want my CV to be as good as i hoped, i def. have to stay till the end of that event before i leave for NS. what sux tho is that I would hve to wait till December or January if I missed the October intake. Another few months down the drain. Oh well. I told her of my dilemna and i'm now left with the Dec/Jan. option. What to do?
